The largest share of failures is due to mechanics. In glass processing, spindles and bearings are exposed to extreme conditions. Cooling water and fine glass dust form an abrasive paste that can attack even sealed systems. A defect in the main spindle often means several days of downtime.

A material defect rate of 8% is economically significant and directly leads to increased downtime, costs, and planning uncertainty. Through a combination of improved process monitoring, targeted maintenance, and close cooperation with our service technicians, both the error rate and resulting downtimes can be sustainably reduced.

Modern glass processing centers are highly automated. Errors in sensor technology – often caused only by contamination of optical sensors or limit switches – paralyze the entire line. Control problems often require expensive interventions by service technicians.

Over a quarter of failures result directly from postponed maintenance work. If preventive maintenance is neglected in favor of short-term production goals, the risk of a “total failure” increases exponentially.

Operating errors are proportionally lower, but often lead to the most expensive damages (e.g., collisions in the work area). Regular training and intuitive user interfaces are the most important countermeasures here.
